The varsity softball team is playing in the annual Francis Howell Central softball tournament September 12-13. The girls have won the tournament in the past and are looking to win again this season.
“If we play good as a team like we are capable of doing then we will do good and win again,” junior Courtney Laughlin said.
The girls play a total of three games this weekend and have tough competition. The team has put lots of time in preparing for this tournament practicing everyday after school. According to senior Kayla Ruiz, the team works hard at practices to become better individual players as well as team players.
“My expectations for the team this weekend is that everyone plays as a team and plays with a lot of heart,” Ruiz said.
To win the tournament last year the team had to win against a sharp Francis Howell Central team. The players are looking to win again this year.
“We started off the tournament last year pretty good,” junior Austine Pauley said. “As the tournament went on we kind of lost it a little but came through in the last game to win it.”
This tournament means a lot to the coaches and players. With the tournament being so early in the season it’s very beneficial to the team.
“This is an extra chance for us to prove to everyone that we can compete,” Laughlin said. “If we don’t get the outcome we want then we can use this as a learning experience and this will give us a good idea of what we need to work on to improve the rest of the season.”
