On Tuesday Sept. 16, Francis Howell North girls volleyball lost to Francis Howell 2-0.
“Watching the [varsity] girls play was like watching a battle because of how much of a rivalry it is between the schools,” jv volleyball player Kayla Turner said.
Howell kicked off the first match with a solid score. Midway through the game, the first time out of the game was called with the score being 13-6 Howell leading. In the end, North lost the first match 25-16.
“Next time, I hope we talk more, and get excited, and not give up so fast,” varsity volleyball player Samantha Alexander said.
Although the varsity team lost the first match, there was still one more game to play.
In the second game, North was starting to catch up with the score being 17-14 Howell leading. As many outs and mistakes were being made on both teams, it was not enough for North to come out with a victory. North lost with score being 25-16.
“We played well, they played better,” varsity assistant coach Kent Stover said.
The varsity team was not the only team to lose to Howell that evening with FHN’s freshman and jv volleyball teams also falling to Howell.
“Overall, we are improving every match,” Stover said. “That’s our goal, is to get better every time we go on the court.”
The varsity teams next game will be on Thursday, September 18 at Parkway North at 5 p.m.
