The FHN Marching Band placed 3rd in their most recent competition at Fort Zumwalt North. The band is lead by band teachers Paul Ahlemeyer and Jeff Moorman. Marching Band practices four days a week, from 2:45-5:00 p.m. to ensure a clean and smooth performance.
“The goal for this weeks practice is not to build endurance, we are trying to perfect our show as much as possible and make it as clean and well rehearsed as possible before our last show on Saturday.” Marching Band member, Thomas Officer said.
The band will be traveling to Warrensburg, Mo. on Oct. 24 for a competition at the University of Central Missouri. It will be the band’s last competition of the year. They will leave after school on Friday and return on Sunday. They will be competing against 32 other schools from all around the state.
“I hope we place well and have an emotional performance,” Marching Band member Christian Witte said.
This year the band department made a few small changes in hopes of a better season. This year they have spent a little more on music for higher quality which will hopefully allow them to more successful. The percussion staff was also changed a little. The Band brought back the previous percussion arranger Chris SaKowski. With his help the music was completed faster, allowing the group to come together faster and work in one cohesive unit.
“The students have been responding really well to everything that we’ve been giving to them,” said Moorman.”Which makes our [Band Directors] lives easier and their [Band Members] lives a lot better.”
