On Oct. 21, Tyson Stevens, frontman of early to late 2000s genre shaping band Scary Kids Scaring Kids was found dead. As of now, the report was from someone who wishes to remain anonymous and there is no information regarding his death.
Scary Kids Scaring Kids didn’t start the synth-hardcore genre, but they certainly helped popularize it with their hit “My Darkest Hour”. They set the standard for the genre and many bands since then have taken pages from their book in style and sound.
Scary Kids Scaring Kids announced that they were to break up in 2009 but continued their tour and officially disbanded in 2010. Stevens helped form a new band in late 2013 titled Coma Prevail who released a three track demo and played shows all throughout 2014.
Hearing this news is very heartbreaking to me. I was very into Scary Kids Scaring Kids as a kid and they shaped my music taste. While I haven’t listened to them regularly in years, they’ve still always been on my mind in the same way that Hawthorne Heights is. They inspired my musical taste and gave me countless hours of joy.
My thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to Stevens’ family and friends. Rest in peace, Tyson. You truly were an inspiration.
