Last night, the varsity boys soccer team celebrated their seniors in a pre-game ceremony before the last game against
Timberland. The game ended in a 1-0 scoreline in favor of FHN.
“The pregame ceremony to our senior night got me pumped up and thrilled for our game,” senior Gabe Grote said.
The first half was even on possession, but the better of the opportunities were in favor of the Knights, despite the injury to sophomore Connor Crain. The best opportunity came with about three minutes left in the half as sophomore Chase Droege almost slid the ball into the net after the pass from freshman Alex Long. The half ended 0-0.
“I thought we played well in the first half,” head coach Larry Scheller said. “I thought that we possessed the ball well, but it would’ve been nice to have put one in the back of the net.”
The second half started off in Timberland’s favor, but eventually settled back in the Knights favor. Timberland’s red card with 15 minutes remaining certainly didn’t help their cause. With about 12 minutes remaining, the deadlock was finally broken after junior Alec McClendon finished a half-volley to put the Knights ahead 1-0.
Districts start Tuesday at 7 pm against Hazelwood Central at FHN.
“I was pretty excited,” McClendon said. “It was a great moment.”
