On Friday October 31, the Knights will face the Cadets of CBC in the District Semifinal Round of the MSHSAA Playoffs.
“We’re definitely the underdog, but that’s the best way to go in sometimes,” senior offensive captain AJ Schulze said. “It gives us a really good chance to win in an upset.”
The Knights finished the regular season with a 3-6 record, while CBC was an undefeated 9-0, winning those games by an average of 42.5 points. Between The Cadets their two quarterbacks, no interceptions were thrown, while, between Brendan Lieser and Quentin White, the Knights had seven passing touchdowns and three interceptions.
“I’m excited for this game,” Head Coach Brandon Gregory said. “I’m excited to play against the best team in the state. We’re going to give it all we’ve got, and they’ll have to show us why they’re the best in the state.”
The rushing attacks for the two teams is fairly even as well. Elijah Keely has lead the Knights with 789 rushing yards, 12 touchdowns and 6.8 yards per carry this season. Tre Bryant, leading rusher for CBC, had 753 yards, 15 touchdowns and 10.9 yards per carry as well this season. The game may be left to the defenses. The Knights’ defense has 11 fumble recoveries and nine interceptions, while the Cadets have eight fumble recoveries and seven interceptions.
“We’ll just have to empty out,” Gregory said. “Whatever we have, we’ll leave it on the field. We know they’re good. They don’t know us. They’ll have to show us why they are the best. There are no backup plans if this doesn’t work. We’re just going to go out there and try to make our season last.”
