Beginning second semester, FHN clubs and activities will have another opportunity to help out the school with the addition of a new Adopt a Hallway program, created by Assistant Principal Chris Birch and headed by StuCo. The program assigns various clubs and activities around the school to a hallway that they are responsible for keeping clean by picking up trash and taking down outdated flyers. The goal is to have groups assigned the hallway nearest to where their sponsor is located. For example, StuCo and the Butterfly Hallway.
“It’s just them taking pride in a certain hallway in the school and if everybody’s doing that in the hallways, hopefully our school will be cleaner and nicer,” StuCo Sponsor Shelly Parks said.
Though the program hasn’t officially started yet, nine activities have already said they’d be willing to take part. Activities including Drama Club, Boys’ and Girls’ Volleyball, and HOSA are just a few of the willing participants. The junior class delegates are also a group that is planning to participate in the Adopt a Hallway program.
“It’s a good opportunity to help keep the school clean,” Junior Class Sponsor Marissa Cohen said.
Birch decided to have StuCo take charge of the program because he felt that their group was an overarching figure for the student body to get information from. Though plans aren’t finalized yet and the logistics of what group will be assigned which hallway have yet to be determined, both he and Parks are optimistic about the turnout so far. Birch hopes that the program will be successful and be something that sticks around for years to come.
“Our students already have a tremendous amount of pride as Knights, but just when we think about our school as our home away from home, we want to encourage a nice, tidy environment and take pride in keeping our school clean,” Birch said.
