This season for the Boys Swimming team was full of outstanding achievements. The team performed well in GACs and sent two swimmers to state.
“For both me and the team, I think the season went pretty great,” senior Sean Pirrone said. “It was full of fast times and friendly people.”
The season was full of busy events. At GACs, Pirrone came in first place in his 100 butterfly and placed third in his 300 IM. Sophomore Patrick Quinn placed fourth in diving, sophomore Peter Luicido set a new school record, and freshman Lucas Etheridge swam his first meet and placed 14th. Pirrone and Lucido were the only swimmers from North to placed for State.
“Our biggest competitor I’d say was either Fort Zumwalt East or Fort Zumwalt North,” Coach William Crow said. “They both have a similar size team and similar abilities to what we have.”
At State, Pirrone swam 100 butterfly with a time of 54.99 seconds, half a second faster than he had expected, and placed 18th overall. Luicido improved from last year by moving up a sport in diving and claiming third place.
“I can’t really complain about State but I wish I did a bit better,” Pirrone said. “I dropped time but I actually fell back a spot from where I was seeded. Peter did great though.”
For next season Crow hopes to gain more swimmers. After gaining a few more swimmers Crow plans to continue to build on what the team has already started. He plans to recruit swimmers by contacting people that swam in summer leagues and going to middle schools and speaking about the team.
