Recently at an Every Time I Die show, a fan hopped on stage to take a selfie with the vocalist, Keith Buckley. His phone was kicked out of his hands by guitarist Jordan Buckley. This has caused the community to be in an uproar.
Every Time I Die guitarist stops onstage selfie with karate kick
Many people are saying that the guy deserved it and that he shouldn’t have gotten on stage. Some people disagree. Band PM Today posted on Facebook, “Mistreating your fans and abusing whatever power you think you have because people like your band is not ‘cool’. We challenge everyone at our next show to get onstage and take as many selfies as your phone can handle”. While I think that the guy shouldn’t have gotten on stage if it wasn’t for stage diving, I think the kick was out of line. I would have thought that bands would have learned their lessons about harming fans after the Randy Blythe incident. For those who don’t know about Blythe, he is the vocalist of metal band Lamb of God. In 2013, he was charged with manslaughter of a 19 year old fan after he threw him off stage. The fan suffered head trauma and eventually died because of it. Blythe was acquitted, but he still spent time in a Czech prison because of it. I am fairly torn on this subject. While I love the idea of climbing on to the stage to stage dive is perfectly acceptable, I think getting up there to take a selfie with the band is kind of lame. On the other hand, I know if I were performing and someone did that, I would be honored. On a lighter note, a video was posted of From First to Last performing “Emily” (Which appeared on “Dear Diary, My Teenage Angst Has a Body Count” back in 2004) and new singer Spencer Sotelo (Also the singer of Periphery) invited all the fans to get on stage and sing with them. This was a blast of nostalgia hearing this old classic performed 10 years later, and it was a much happier situation than the Every Time I Die controversy.
