After the 2-3 loss against Francis Howell Central on Jan 10, the Francis Howell North Knights were ready to turn around and play hard on Monday, Jan. 12 against their rivalry team the Francis Howell High Vikings.

“As a team we were confident because we had everyone there for once but we knew that it was going to be a tough game,” senior Bryan Fuhler said.

To start off the game, the Knights were already in the zone. Within three minutes into the first period, Junior Tyler Mcatee made the first goal. A few minutes after, Mcatee made a second goal. The Knights wrapped up the first period by blocking 11 attempted shots from the Vikings.

“We knew we had to go into the second period playing as hard as we were in the first period,” Fuhler said. “We had to make sure we didn’t make any little mistakes.”

During the second period the Vikings stepped up their game. Within moments of the puck hitting the ice, the Vikings scored a goal making the score 2-1. A few minutes after the Vikings first goal, the team had scored another goal. Senior Brycon Johnson responded to his opponents by whacking at the puck and scoring the third goal for North.

“It felt good to be leading but leading by only one point wasn’t good,” senior Brennan Buerck said. “We needed an insurance goal.”

The Knights were ready to take home the win and end the night, but plans changed. Half way into the third period the Vikings scored a point which tied the score 3-3. Just a few minutes later the Vikings were in the lead after scoring another goal. According to Buerck, he saw an opportunity and tied the score again as he slammed the puck into the goal moments before the game was over. Time ran out and the ending score was 4-4.

“We knew that we had made a few mistakes and Howell had capitalized on that which made us tie” Fuhler said.
