After yet another 3 year contract coming to an end people are scared and excited to find out who next years golden globe host/hosts will be. With that worry in mind it didn’t last long once the beautiful comedy duo took the stage for their last performance. Starting with brilliant cuts at The Interview, George Clooney, Bill Cosby, Oprah, and more. Continuing with a game of who would you rather pointing out all how the two have completely opposite taste in men complimenting actors Chris Pratt, Colin Farrell, and other actors and directors.
After starting the show with some solid laughter and poking fun at each other we got the awards going. Being presented by Jennifer Anniston and the first star to raise their hand, who perfectly was Benedict Cumberbatch. Showing how little prepared he was made it really funny and enjoyable to watch as Jennifer Aniston tried to stay afloat with the improvisation that Benedict filled. Planned or not it definitely warmed the audience up and made us at home get more involved with the show watching them have fun with each other.
Now that the awards were rolling we got rid of the not as popular awards such as best foreign film given to Leviathan, best mini series went to Fargo, and best actress, Maggie Gyllenhaal and actor, Billy Bob Thornton in a mini series. Then best supporting actor in a mini series went to Matt Bomer, who I was very happy about just because he was born in Webster Groves. Joanne Froggatt won best supporting actress in a mini series.
After we got through those awards we got to the more anticipated awards. This year it was great because you could never guess who would receive the award. It was very even, each movie got a fair share of awards. This is the quick highlights of the ceremony so obviously spoiler alert.
Birdman brings home best lead actor in comedy, Michael Keaton and best Screenplay.
Boyhood winning best drama motion picture and best supporting actress in a motion picture went to Patricia Arquette.
Grand Budapest Hotel wins best motion picture comedy.
Very well deserved on both films no matter what each film had their unique and amazing way of shooting/ making the film and honestly it seemed ny choice was a good choice.
How To Train Your Dragon 2 won best animated film which surprised me due to the competitors like the controversial Lego Movie, entirely stop motion film Boxtrolls, and Marvels Big Hero 6.
Theory of Everything won for best leading actor in a drama motion picture, Eddie Redmayne giving a very beautiful and brilliant representation of the role of Steven Hawking.
J.K Simmons who is one of the most under rated actor and it was really awesome to see him win a golden globe for best supporting actor in his movie Whiplash.
Julianne Moore winning best leading actress in a drama for her role in Still Alice.
Along side the obsession of movies Golder Globes offer all the similar categories for television. In today’s time, it is very hard to keep up with all the TV exclusive, Hulu plus, Amazon Prime, Netflix, HBO, Showtime, any of them have their own shows you pay extra to just watch them it makes it very hard to see all of the television shows.
Transparent an Amazon original won best TV comedy with as well Jeffrey Tambor for best lead actor in a television series.
Best TV drama was given to The Affair which is shown weekly on Showtime. The Affair also won best actress in a TV drama given to Ruth Wilson.
It came by no surprise that Kevin Spacey won best actor in a TV drama in House Of Cards.
Then finally the award for best actress in a TV comedy went to Gina Rodriguez for her starring role on Jane The Virgin on The CW.
All in all it was a very good ceremony great jokes, memorable moments, heartfelt and not so heartfelt speeches with some great nominees and some completely deserving awards. It was nice to see an award ceremony where nobody swept the competition for a change. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for all of these talented actors.
