Every year, the German club, with the help of German teacher Anne McPartland put together a show known as Fraufest. Fraufest is a music-themed talent show where students can perform in front of an audience of other students and families. It has been announced that Fraufest will be canceled for the 2014-15 school year.
“Back in the day we used to have a talent show that our Drama Teacher sponsored and it would be singers and dancers and people with hula hoops,” McPartland said. “It was fun and it was cool but there was no place for rock and roll to happen so I had a bunch of students at the time that really wanted to do a battle of the bands.”
Tickets are typically sold for only $5. The German club has decided to call off Fraufest for the year due to a lack of performers, and lack of interest. This is the first time that Fraufest has been canceled. There were only three bands signed up to perform. German club would have likely ended up losing money. This has also been a major disappointment to students.
“I was bummed ‘cause I was really hoping that senior year I could get a whole bunch of people to show up and a bunch of bands,” Hayden Jensen said. “I was really hoping that it’d be a big one since it’s my last year here but it flopped.”
Fraufest has been a long-standing tradition at FHN, lasting for eight consecutive years. It was even on TV when Julia Carney, a Junior during the 2011-12 school year, helped Fraufest get featured on MADE, a show on MTV.
“We’ve always had fun, it’s a fun thing to do but I could understand why it was canceled,” German club Vice President Olivia Stuertz said. “I just don’t think enough people were interested this year.”
