On Jan. 29, the varsity girls basketball team went up against the Troy Trojans at Howell North making this
the Knights 13 game of the season.
“We communicated really well and did a great job of keeping the tempo up,” senior guard Madison Kelly said.
The first quarter began with the possession of the ball going back and forth between the Knights and the Trojans, which resulted in a score of 8-3 with the Knights in the lead. At the end of the first half, the Knights were up 22-12 with 11 seconds to go, junior Austine Pauley was fouled and made both shots ending the half with a score of 24-12.
“Our coach has been trying to have us work together as a team throughout the entire season and we have really been showing that lately,” freshman guard Grace Stevenson said. “We have been working to control our effort and attitude in the game and it really showed in our game against Troy.”
In the third quarter of the game the Trojans tried to catch up but the Knights kept fighting. By the end of the third quarter, the Knights were still in the lead with a score of 31-18. The fourth quarter resulted in a lot of free throws since both teams were up for the bonus. The final score was 44-35, Howell North had the victory. Leading scorer junior Jessica Brady had 15 of those 44 points.
“We kept the intensity up the whole time and worked together as a team,” Brady said.
Upcoming events for the Lady Knights basketball team include a game against their biggest rival Francis Howell Central on Tuesday, Feb. 3. More upcoming events include a game against Timberland on Feb. 6 and a game against Francis Howell on Feb. 13. Howell North goes up against Troy for the second time Feb. 2.
