When you think of movies, you might think Hollywood, New York, or Los Angeles. Park City, Utah is probably one of the last places that would come to mind. Once a year that town is home to one of the most popular independent film festivals. On Jan. 22nd 2015 Sundance Film Festival presenting tons of films that will soon be put into theaters in the next year or two. These are the films to be looking out for in the future.
True Story
Description: The relationship between journalist Michael Finkel and Christian Longo, an FBI Most Wanted List murderer who for years lived outside the U.S. under Finkel’s name.
IMDB rating: 8.2
I plan to see this movie because of the unique storyline and interesting cast leading with Jonah Hill and James Franco. I am interested to see James Franco in another drama portraying a wanted murderer.
Last Days In The Desert
Description: An imagined chapter from Jesus’ forty days of fasting and praying in the desert. On his way out of the wilderness, Jesus struggles with the Devil over the fate of a family in crisis.
IMDB rating: 7.9
This movie is always tough to call because movies religion based or based off a bible story it can only appeal to a certain amount of people. If we look pass the possible disappointment of a biblical story, Ewan Mcgregor is portraying both Jesus and Lucifer and that really has a promising take on the story. It looks to have a chance to be very good.
Z for Zachariah
Description: In the wake of a disaster that wipes out most of civilization, two men and a young woman find themselves in an emotionally charged love triangle as the last known survivors.
IMDB rating: 8.0
This story definitely sounds unique and broad enough to give us a lot of surprises, but what really catches our eye is the very talented cast: Chris Pine (Into The Woods) Margot Robbie (The Wolf Of Wall Street) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 years a slave)
The D Train
Description: The head of a high school reunion committee travels to Los Angeles to track down the most popular guy from his graduating class and convince him to go to the reunion.
IMDB rating: 8.0
This sounds like a late coming of age movie. It sounds to be a good adventure and a very possible comedy. Jack Black has a chance to be in a more mature comedy and have a character that has more depth than some in the past. Then having the underrated actor James Marsden to be the popular guy I’m excited to see him again hopefully in a more memorable role.
Cop Car
Description: A small town sheriff sets out to find the two kids who have taken his car on a joy ride.
IMDB rating: 7.8
This really only stands out because of it’s broad description and that it is called to be a thriller. It has me hooked because Kevin Bacon is playing the cop.
