The Francis Howell North girls swimming and diving team went to State on February 20 and 21. State was held at the St. Peters Rec Plex and two girls
had the opportunity to attend State. Senior Dominique Meyer went to State for diving and freshman Erin Stock went for swimming. Meyer took seventh at State for the second year in a row and Stock placed thirty-seventh in the 100 fly.
According to coach Chip Crow, the Lady Knights have had a good season preparing for State.
“The competition at state was obviously really hard, I think the girls did really well,” said Crow. “We worked really hard throughout the season to prepare the girls.”
By working hard to practice almost every night of the week, with meets in between, the Lady Knights were ready to head to state. According to Stock, preparation for State included tapering which was decreasing the yardage at practice but increasing the interval in order swim faster without becoming tired before State.
According to Stock, State was a lot more competitive than the actual season and there was a lot more people competing at State compared to regular meets.
“Although I didn’t get the time I was hoping to reach, I still think I did pretty well,” said Stock. “I was nervous at first because I didn’t know what to expect and there were a lot more people there than I was used to, but it turned out to be a really fun and exciting experience.”
The team has great expectations for the next girls swimming season. According to Stock, the team is going to miss some valued seniors but they also have great underclassmen with a lot of potential.
“I’m excited to see what new freshman will bring to the team and I can’t wait to see how I can improve from this year,” said Stock.
