On March 4, the Howell North hockey team went up against Fox High School at the Scottrade Center to compete for the Wickenheiser Cup Final.
“I was speechless when I found out we were going to state,” Kavan Johnson said. “I’ll leave it at that.”
The second period started with the score still being 0-0. Within seconds of the puck being dropped, Fox had scored a goal. With nine minutes and 52 seconds on the clock, senior Brycon Johnson scored the first goal with the assistance of junior Tyler McAtee and senior Brennan Buerck. At the end of second period the score was tied 1-1.
“There was a lot of mixed emotions when we were tied because we were all saying how we could come back if we fixed our mistakes,” said senior Devin Hoffman
Two minutes into the third period, sophomore Adam Dempski scored the second goal for the Knights. A few minutes later, senior Mitchell Carlson scored the third goal which ended the game with a score of 3-1, making the Knights Wickenheiser Cup Champions.
