With only seven games to play for most teams, the Barclays English Premier League season is far from over.
At the top of the table, it seems that Chelsea have all but secured the title, as they have a game in hand over most of the other teams and a seven point advantage over second place Arsenal. Also, in the top four, only two points separate second place Arsenal to fourth place Manchester City. The top three teams get a guaranteed spot in the UEFA Champions League, while the team that finishes fourth has to go through a qualification process.
For the only guaranteed UEFA Europa League spot, fifth place Liverpool are tied with Tottenham and have only a one point advantage over seventh place Southampton. The team that finishes fifth gets a guaranteed spot in the UEFA Europa League, while the winner of the FA Cup and Capital One Cup also go to the UEFA Europa League.
At the bottom of the table, the battle to stay in the top division of England’s eight is in full swing. The bottom three teams, Queens Park Rangers (QPR), Burnley and Leicester City, will be demoted to the second division if they remain in those positions. 16th place Aston Villa is only three points out of 19th, with Burnley and QPR trying to get out and take Villa and 17th place Hull City to the second division, while it seems that Leicester City is almost certain to be going to the second division.
With the tight positioning in the league, the last weeks are sure to be full of the regular dramatic finishes that the world has become accustomed to with the English top flight. Whatever happens, May 24 will sure to be a day that soccer fans across the world take to sit down and watch as the Barclays English Premier League plays out.
