During the week of April 6 through 10, Students for FHN came up with a way to cheer up students during the most stressful time of the year. Each day of the week, two students known around school for being happy and outgoing were given a happy face bag full of stickers, candy and wristbands. Throughout the course of the day, if they saw a student walking by being extra happy or kind they would be given a reward from the bag.
“We came up with happy hallways as a way to be fun and silly and encourage people to be kind and smile and just try to spread some cheer,” Students for FHN sponsor Erin Steep said.
Happy hallways celebrates people acting happy to be at school and trying to encourage their behavior in effort to create a good atmosphere and replace the negative energy in the halls. It’s a small thing done in hope of having a positive change in the building.
“Most of the people I’ve talked to think its cool, no one seems to be unhappy about it and everyone wants to get a sticker,” senior Elise Gertsch said.
All Students for FHN activities concentrate on making the school a happy place where students can enjoy being and respect each other in a friendly environment. Happy Hallways was done once before and Students for FHN hope that this can become something that happens yearly or even every semester and an event Students for FHN can be recognized by.
“In my 11 years of teaching I might have gotten angry four or five time and I promote Happy Hallways every day, 185 days a year,” teacher Joe Brockmith said.
