On April 23 through April 24, the Howell North Knights’ Boys Tennis Team will be playing in the annual Francis Howell Doubles Tournament held at Francis Howell High School.
“This season has been fun and successful so far, I’d like to see that continue and finish off my senior year on a good note,” senior Matt Dunn said.
The tournament will consist of schools in the conference, including FHN, Francis Howell, Francis Howell Central, Timberland, Troy, and Fort Zumwalt West. Unlike the regular season matches, only four Varsity Gold doubles teams will be competing in the round robin tournament. The tournament is organized into flights A through D, with the top doubles team from each school playing in Flight A, followed by flights B, C and D. The scoring system will be first to seven games in the round robin games, and an eight game pro set for the semifinal matches, followed by a full two out of three set match for the finals. Last year, FHN won the tournament, and the boys are hoping to repeat their win this year.
“I think we will win pretty easily,” Junior Colin Griffin said. “We have been practicing hard and I think we are very prepared.”
Head Coach Kate Kleiber is hoping to see how well the doubles partners play together, and plans on setting up doubles teams for districts and GAC’s based on the results.
“I’m hoping Will Stephens and Colin Griffin really do well because I would like to keep them practicing together so they will be a strong team that can possibly play districts and continue to play next year,” Kate Kleiber said.
On Monday, the Knights’ Tennis team defeated Timberland 6-3, and are currently undefeated in the conference with a 8-0 record.
