Scholar Bowl. Not only is it an extremely challenging club, but also very demanding. High school students go head-to-head to answer a series of questions in categories such as math, science, and literature. North’s Scholar Bowl team has had a very successful year with many victories and successes.
“Scholar Bowl had a very different skill set then most club,” club sponsor Chris Witthaus said. “It focuses just on your knowledge and I like knowing that team has made many improvements this season.”
The club has achieved many goals that they set for themselves. The Scholar Bowl team has come out on top by having the JV team place in the top eight of the division and varsity place ninth. They ended up with the best record in the past few years, JV going 7-5, while varsity had a record of 4-8. This was one of the best records that they have had in recent years. Along with achieving their record goal, multiple players ended up finishing the season in the top 20 for JV and Varsity.
“I think that with every match, we put forth our best effort and that although our record may not demonstrate it, we made each a good game that the team should be proud of,” Zach Valleroy said.
Although the season may be over, the team is preparing for next season to try to go undefeated. They will aim to become a stronger team by the players that they have had the past few seasons, but will also aim to recruit new people to join the team.
“I hope that everyone we have had this year comes back next year and keep that continuity going while at the same time getting new people to join in and grow our team,” JV captain Som Singh said.
