On Monday May 11, three members of the varsity golf team will be competing at
sectionals. Sectionals are held at Forest Hills Country Club.
Seniors A.J. Porter and Kyle Melchoir along with junior Ryan Dickey will all be competing on Monday. There scores, at districts, were low enough to advance them, while the team as a whole did not shoot a low enough score to qualify. On a course with a 71 par, Porter shot a 74, Melchior shot a 78, and Dickey shot a 83. Districts were held at The Falls on May 4.
“Sectionals will be a lot more challenging because there is a much higher cut to advance to state,” Melchoir said.
They beat out competitors from eleven other schools to advance to sectionals. The teams that did advance were Fort Zumwalt West, and Francis Howell.
“Districts was hard but I think if we keep playing the way we’ve been playing, I think we have a shot in sectionals,” senior Kyle Melchoir said.
FHN was 2-3 this season. The team hopes to send their three representatives to sectionals prepared.
“We’ve been practicing at Forest Hills and going to the driving range a lot, to get ready for sectionals,” Melchoir said.
Last year the team also sent two players on to sectionals, so this year was definitely an improvement. For the two seniors, this may be the last chance for them to compete in high school.
“ I’m glad I get to continue my high golfing career for at least another round,” Melchoir.
