FHN Students Make First Strides Toward Their Dreams

Everyone dreams of the chance to one day make their dreams come true. For two FHN students, they are doing just that. Between being involved in activities inside of school like Cross Country and NHS, juniors Ethan Samson and Michael Shine have started their own band alongside FHN alumni Marty Aubuchon.

“I have always wanted to be in a band, but after middle school and performing then as a band, it was just a lot of fun,” Samson said.

Both Samson and Shine started out solo by taking lessons from a local artist in St. Charles, who himself, performs at coffee shops and bars in the local area. Shine heads the guitar and bass section of the band and Samson is lead singer who also plays guitar. Aubuchon stepped up as a drummer for the band. Even though they are a relatively new band, they have performed for people a few times and when asked their favorite place they have played, both referred to Picasso’s along with the Barnwell Middle School talent shows at the end of every school year.

“I think it’s really cool how far they have come,” says junior Kyle Rohlfing. “I think there is a lot of potential if they keep working as hard as they have been.”

For the past 6 months, the band has been focused on their sound. They recently were able to get better equipment which allowed them to easily record their music in better quality. Because their focus has been on their music, the name of the band is still up for discussion. As of now, they meet about once a week in Samson’s basement and are hoping to start practicing more so they can prepare for live shows that are now possible because of their equipment.

“I hope people like our music and want to listen to it,” says Shine. “I love playing music and making music and I’m just super excited for it [live performances].”
