On Sept. 1, the Varsity Boys Soccer team will be playing against Christian Brothers College (CBC). This will be Varsity’s first home game and the team is hoping to start off the season with a win.
“I think that it is very possible that we will defeat CBC if we work hard enough and play well as a team throughout the entire game”, said junior Eric Dickherber.
The first home game will be played on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Not only are the players confident in their ability this season but the coaches are also. This year’s Varsity coaches will be Larry Scheller and Zachary Fettig.
“Our goal for the season is to improve every time we step onto the field whether it’d be practice or a game,” said head coach Larry Scheller. “If we work as a team every time we do step out on the field, it’ll help us become better people and better soccer players.”
In previous years, Varsity have had very successful seasons and are hoping for another one this year. Although Varsity lost to CBC 2-1 last season, they hope to do better this year against the very competitive team to win their first home game. Because Varsity currently has a powerful team, they are confident that they have the ability to defeat CBC on Tuesday.
“This year I think we might surprise people. We have a lot of talent on our team, and I truly believe we can go toe to toe with these bigger schools this year,” said junior Jesse George. “We are just going to go out and play our own game: Play smart and hard. If we achieve this, it’s going to be a great game.”
