Opinion: Technology In the Classroom

By Tristan Chenoweth

Technology has been growing at an enormous rate over the past couple of years. So has the use of it within the classroom. With the ever-changing technology comes the need to keep up with it. Teachers here at FHN are starting to incorporate the use of technology into the classrooms and into the student’s lives.

Everything today now involves interacting with some form of technology whether it be an ATM machine, sending a text message and even sending a letter through the mail. Speaking from the standpoint of a high school student, I use technology every day. That includes using my phone and using a computer during the school day. Keeping up with the technology curve, even for me, is a bit of a challenge.

As new phones and computers roll out every 6 to 12 months people always seem to want or have the newest piece of tech on the market. Teachers also have to keep up with that curve as the students use technology within their classrooms. They have to understand how it all works and how they can incorporate it into either the classroom or into assignments within the class curriculum.

With the latest release of the Samsung 6 and Samsung 6 Edge and the upcoming release of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s plus, the learning curve will begin again. People buying the new phones have to figure out how to use and incorporate their new phones into their lives and into their school work. Teachers also have to adjust and learn the new technology that students start using in the classroom.

In the near future don’t be too surprised if you teacher says ‘take out your phone because we are going to use them for today’s activity’. I personally can’t wait for classes to move into the digital age. As time goes on FHN will start to move into the digital world and most work will start to be done online with the use of a computer or a phone.
