The homecoming dance this year will be a real trip with a theme of “Around the World.” The theme is different from last years which was “Fire and Frost.” The theme of each dance changes every year, and the setting of the dance is decorated to match each theme.
“I think they could have done a bit better in picking the theme because it”s just a repeat of the 2011 theme,” senior Elle Redel said.
Tickets for the dance cost $20 and are sold at the snack table during lunch. It will be held in the bigger gymnasium on Sept 19. The time the dance starts is at 7:00 p.m. Students going to the dance who will be bringing a peer from another school or anywhere else will have to have a parent write a letter to their principal explaining that it is okay for the student to go to the event.
“I went last year, and I was almost late because I went to get dinner before; the restaurant I went to was super busy,” sophomore Madi Oestreich said.
Before the homecoming dance is a few other special events at FHN. Spirit week is a fun way for students to really get excited about going to the homecoming dance and showing a lot of school spirit. The first day of spirit week is around the world day which is basically the theme of the dance. The next day is black and gold for the underclassmen. For the seniors, Tuesday will be toga day. Wednesday is favorite sports team or powderpuff for the junior and senior girls who are participating in it. Thursday will be class colors for everyone attending the pep assembly. The annual powderpuff game comes every year with a face off between the junior and senior girls. The homecoming game will be Friday where there is no school due to a Professional Development day for teachers.
“Probably just to have fun with my friends and to get all dressed up and to get my hair and make-up done,” freshman Kyris Evans said.
