On Friday Sept. 11, the Francis Howell North varsity football team travels to Francis Howell to play their rivals the Francis Howell Vikings.
“Tonight I think it will be hard to win against Howell,”sophomore James Wersching said.” “But we are a too good of a team to give up against them.”
To start off the game a helicopter landed on the Howell field to deliver to the game ball. With the theme of red, white and blue the student section was pumped up to begin the game.
“I think this theme is important because it’s 9/11 and for the remembrance of the tragedy that happened many years ago,” coach Darks said.
The game was off to a slow start for the Knights. With the score of 0-25 into the half, the Vikings were making an impressive head start. The Knights knew this was going to be a hard game. As they played they were not going down without a fight.
“Even though we are losing I still believed that the game would turn around for North,” sophomore Tia Keating said.
Within the last quarter of the game the Knights finally made their first touchdown against the vikings by Jake Viehman and a field goal in by Wersching. A second touchdown by Jarrett O’brien and the Knights made it onto the scoreboard. So far this season Francis Howell North has been the only team to score against Howell. The Knights were defeated with a score of 14-49
“ I believe that if our team stopped being scared and just had fun it could have been a whole different outcome, we did not come as a team and enjoy the football game,” junior Donnell Hawkins said.
