On Tues Sept. 22, Varsity softball played Francis Howell Central at home. Overall, the girls put up a good fight. They ended up winning 11-0, shutting out Central.
“I think our team played very well,” sophomore Elizabeth Davis said. “We came out strong and attacked as a team. Our defense was solid and didn’t them score a run. My favorite part of the game was striking out eight of their and beating them 11-0.”
In the game, defense kept getting 1,2,3 outs in a lot of the innings. On offense, sophomore Sahuara Pauley hit a two-run homer. Lead pitcher sophomore Elizabeth Davis had eight strikeouts total in the game.
“I liked that everyone was pushing to keep scoring, everyone was hungry for more, and I think our hitting has come a long way since the beginning of the year and we continue to progress in our batting averages,” senior Emma Pardo said.
In the season overall, the team is 8-9. In tournaments, they came in 3 at the Francis Howell Central tournament. Their GACs are on Oct. 8 at Fort Zumwalt South, at the moment the team is 2 in their conference behind Howell. Other highlights from the season were beating St. Charles West 17-1 and Hazelwood Central 15-0.
“We all worked together as a team and we had both good offense and defense which lead us to winning, we hit all throughout our lineup not just certain people,” junior Allison Murphy said. “My favorite part was probably ruling the field and staying cheerful throughout the entire game.”
