Car of the Week: Mazda Miata

By Martin Groves

This week’s FHN Car of the Week features senior Alex Boeckman’s 1995 Mazda Miata.

“I bought the car about a month ago, after the start of the semester,” Boeckman said. The car itself is over 20 years old, and with over 180,000 miles, it stills runs strong.

The Miata is the best selling two-seat convertible sports car ever, having sold nearly one million units since its introduction in 1989. With a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine, top speed and acceleration is not exactly what you would call the car’s strong point. However, the aftermarket wheels, exhaust, suspension and tires Boeckman has put on her Miata help make it a slightly quicker and more responsive car all around.

“I got a stick shift because they are more fun to drive,” Boeckman said. “The more involved the driver is, the more enjoyable the experience of driving.”
