Students Prepare to Take ACT

By Kelly Woelfel

Students are preparing to take the ACT on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Francis Howell High School. They take the ACT to gain more practice and better their scores for colleges.

“I actually have a tutor from SLU,” senior Megan Mitchell said. “He is a professor at SLU and he does tutoring sessions at Central, so I did some sessions with him and he gives me like homework packets to do and stuff and I make sure I got to bed really early the night before.”

Many students study many different ways. A few different ways are to  practice the online sessions,  study the books on tips for the ACT and tutors to help study.

“Tips and tricks are to make sure you answer every question because there is no penalty for guessing,” Guidance Counselor Lisa Woodrum said. “The reading section is more questions than minutes to take the test so one should definitely read over the questions first and then skim the essays and don’t waste a large amount of time struggling for an answer move on and if there is time left over you can come back.”

Some students use tips on the ACT that allow them to finish fast and more accurately. The seniors only have four more chances to increase their ACT scores.

“It’s important to me because Mizzou is pretty expensive and doing good on the ACT can help me get some scholarship money and get into the program I want to be in,” senior Paige Klackner said.
