Car of the Week: Acura RSX Type-S

By Martin Groves

When you’re browsing Craigslist for a new car, you never know what you might end up with. That was certainly the case for Junior, Brandon Bauer, who ended up with a 2002 Acura RSX Type-S.

“When I was eight, my dad had a 1987 Pontiac Fiero. I would sit out on the driveway with him while he worked on it,” Bauer said. “I was always more of a classic muscle car guy. I like the power of V8’s, whereas mine’s just a four cylinder.” Prior to his RSX, Bauer had a V8 BMW 540i, which was unfortunately involved in an accident where afterwards it would’ve been uneconomical to repair, so the hunt for a new car began.

Having looked at many different cars, Bauer singled out a particular RSX. It was a two owner vehicle, and had very high mileage, but nonetheless was in excellent condition.

“When we went to check it out, the car had a low profile spoiler on it,” Bauer said. “That’s different from what most RSX’s come with, a wing called a DC5R, which is what I wanted”. Further disappointment came when it was discovered that the AC compressor on the car was broken.

Nevertheless, on Jul. 17 2015 a deal was made and Bauer had his new car.

“I love the car, but I don’t like that it’s front wheel drive,” Bauer said. Since getting the car, he has put on a Spec-D cat-back exhaust, HID bulbs, and has taken off the spoiler. In the future, he plans to put on coil-overs, some aftermarket wheels, a short throw shifter and a shift knob, modifications that will make his car unique.
