Boys Soccer falls to Hazelwood West in Playoffs
On October 29 the FHN varsity soccer team lost to Hazelwood West in the district title game 1-0 via penalty kicks. The game was a playoff elimination game and the 2015 Boys soccer season is now over.
“ We played really good, but the penalty[kicks] did not go in our favor.” Jake Beckman said.
There wasn’t much to do but leave their goalie alone to face an attacker on his own. And that is where FHN fell in a well played game.
“ We could have finished all the opportunities [to score] we had. [If we did] we wouldn’t have had to go to penalties.” Isaias Alvarado said.
It just didn’t work out for the Knights, whos season is now over. And that just the way it is sometimes. For some players it was their last game in high school. Which means it was their last opportunity to leave everything they had on the field.
“It’s weird to think I won’t be able to play high school again. I’m kinda glad it’s over I feel like I served my time. But [for next year’s players] we are expecting a district title next year.”
The Knights finish the season with an 8-14-1 overall record. On offense the Knights scored 31 goals and defensively they gave up 40. There were 4 seniors on the team. Isaias Alvarado Jake Beckman Alec McClendon and Chris Oswald. This year’s soccer team also had a first year goalie in basketball player Fletcher Detrich he is a junior and will have plenty of time to develop his skill even more this off-season.
