Arsenic and Old Lace is about the Brewster family. When Mortimer, played by Riley Lawson, discovers his two aunts, Abby and Martha, played by Megan Thielbar and Marygrace Cole. have been poisoning guests to the house, he tries to keep them out of trouble as his criminal brother Jonathan, played by Zac Cary, comes into town to hide himself from the cops.
“It’s kind of creepy but in a funny way, and the cast is awesome as what they can do,” said junior Jordan Medlin. “They really portray their characters very well.”
The set of play is made to look like a real home. It features a number of platforms, walls called flats, a couch, tables, two stairs, chairs, four rooms, doors and even a stained glass door. Some of the furniture was donated to the theater department, but others were bought from places like Goodwill. The platforms, walls, stained glass as well as props and other things on stage were all made by crew members.
“We got a month to work on it,” said sophomore Bernadette Kornburger. “We spent 2 hours every day after school. Now we are in tech week, and we stay till 8 p.m. so we’ve put a lot of work in it.”
