The Disney World Experience

By Zach Mills, Tristan Tainter, and Kelly Woelfel

Different people have different experiences at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. In most cases, they travel with family for vacation, but for these high school journalism students they got to experience the event of a lifetime. On Nov. 12-15, these students traveled from all over to participate in the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention and experienced Disney World.

One group’s story was about a sequenced man they had met at Downtown Disney. Lauren Hutton and Spencer Krimsky described this man as a 70-year-old man dressed in really short shorts in a Boy Scout uniform just covered in sequins and had on sunglasses with a huge smile on his face.

“We saw him dancing and ran to join him as he hummed along to “Let It Go,” Hutton said.

Afterwards, they formed a circle and danced around him as he spun around in the circle. They said it was completely worth it and was the most memorable experience.

“It was a magical experience, but also horrifying,” Hutton said.

Another group had a different experience. Kameron Phillips and her friends experienced a common event. She dropped her phone in the trash can, but it was all good because it happened at Disney World.

“I had my cookies in one hand and my phone underneath and I kinda just slipped it into the trash can and I was like oh my god my phones in the trashcan,” Phillips said. “ Then Kenzie [Lennick] just reached her hand into the trashcan and pulled it out.”

Reaghan West from St.Charles Missouri had an opposite experience during the Disney firework show. She got to laugh at someone else’s expense instead of laughing at herself like Phillips.

“I thought it was great when Tinkerbell was flying down and everyone was like ‘hey there’s my girl Tinkerbell,’ and then she got stuck over at like the pond and had to self-help and then I started yelling self-help, self-help,” Reaghan West said. “I missed the fireworks because of it but it was still great.”

Here are some Disney World facts and figures.
