Car of the Week: Alex Lane’s Mini Cooper

By Martin Groves

For the second week in a row, the featured car of the week is a convertible, specifically junior Alex Lane’s 2006 Mini Cooper Convertible.

“I love driving with my top down in the winter, it’s really fun,” Lane said. “All you have to do is really blast the heat towards you and you don’t feel the cold, except whenever you come to a stop light you can feel your fingers start to shiver.”

It’s hard to imagine driving in a convertible with the roof down in temperatures a mere couple of degrees above freezing, but there are people out there like Lane who take full advantage of owning a convertible.

On the other hand, there are also those who do not know how to react to seeing something so unusual. “People give you the weirdest looks at stop lights and they start laughing or shaking their head either way,” Lane said. All you really need is a thick jacket and a winter hat to keep you from freezing before you get to your destination.

“The car’s super fun to drive,” Lane said. “It’s great fun.”
