Sophomore Kylie Kirkpatrick was chosen to be a part of the 9/10 Women’s Honor Choir at the Southwest divisional conference of the American Choral Director’s Association. 242 students from around the country auditioned for an opportunity to be a member of the choir, and only 127 were selected. The conference will be held March 7-10, and the honors choir performance will be held on the 10th.
“I’m a little nervous, but mostly just excited,” Kirkpatrick said. “I know it will be a lot of fun and it isn’t until March so I have plenty of time to be nervous later.”
Along with Kirkpatrick auditioning for Women’s Honor Choir, there were also students who auditioned for Missouri All-State Choir at MICDS Thurs. Nov 5. 300 juniors and seniors auditioned and out of the 16 chosen to represent our area, two were chosen from our school. Seniors Andrew Stoker and Rachel Juhlin will be performing with the All-State Choir Jan. 27-30, and this will be the second year for both of them.
“I’m really really excited about this,” Juhlin said. “It’s something I’ve wanted to do since junior high so being able to actually do it is so amazing.”
Kirkpatrick, Juhlin and Stoker are very excited for this opportunity. It is a huge honor to be selected, and they plan on practicing often. They are excited for their friends and family to come watch their performances and they are all very grateful, and they understand what they have to do to succeed in their performances.
“Rachel and I will be practicing together,” Stoker said. “I’m super excited. The fact that only 16 people were chosen to represent the area and Rachel and I are two of them is so cool, it’s awesome.”
