Band and Guard Students Hosts Annual Breakfast with Santa Fundraiser at Becky-David
Published: December 4, 2015
On Saturday, Dec. 4, the symphonic band and winter guard will be hosting a breakfast with Santa at Becky-David Elementary. The breakfast with Santa is open to the public and their children. This breakfast is a fundraiser to help symphonic band and winter guard fund trips and guard equipment.
“We will set up the gym and we will have some decorations in the cafeteria,” head parent volunteer Sarah McCorkle-Smith said. “We will set up an area for Santa to sit at for pictures, there will be tables in the gym for crafts and games and then a check in area where we will have some tablets for raffle baskets.”
Both the students and parents of the guard and band help run the event. Set up will be on Friday night and Saturday morning. Last year they raised about $3,200 with an attendance of about 162 kids and 139 adults. The goal for money this year is about the same, if not more; however, according to preregistration, it’s looking like the attendance is down about 90 to 100 people from last year due to the district not allowing paper distribution.
“My goal is for everyone to have fun, the kids to have fun, adults to have fun, and for everyone to have a great time and to raise a lot of money all at the same time,” McCorkle-Smith said.
The students are most excited to see the happiness from the kids. Other students are looking forward to the extra credit point they receive from working. Even parents are excited about seeing the students work with the little children.
“My favorite thing about helping out is knowing that we are both helping the little kids have fun and helping our team raise money,” senior guard member Elizabeth Jansen said.
Some of the activities at the event include breakfast, visit with Santa Claus, reading with Mrs. Claus and games like a cake walk.
“It’s fun working with all the kids and watching them get all excited about Santa Claus,” junior Zach Hoffman said.
