The FHN Lady Knights basketball team faced a formidable foe in the FHC Spartans (2-3). The now 3-0 Knights were led by an onslaught of 31 points by senior Austine Pauley. Pauley also scored her 1,000 career point in her high school career on a breakaway layup in the first quarter.
The Knights rode the storm of shooting from Pauley’s hot hand to go on to win the game 53-41. They will go on to face FHC on the road on Dec. 22 in their last game of the calendar year.
Following the conclusion of the girls game, the varsity boys took their cracks at the hardwood. The Knights were led by leading scorer and CBC transfer Justin Mathews-Williams, putting up 16 in the game to give him 108 points on the season in just five games. It was the Spartans, though, who committed to this game and nearly blew the Knights out of their own building, had it not been for a much stronger second half defensively by FHN.
The now 1-4 Knights continue their season on the road in tournament play against Parkway Central on Dec. 19, followed by another road game against Mehlville on Dec. 28. The 5-0 Spartans are participating in the tournament at Missouri Baptist against Parkway South on Dec. 19, and they close out 2015 on Dec. 26, facing Webster Groves.
