This year, the annual Snowcoming Dance will occur on Saturday, Feb. 6. It will be held in the Commons from 7-10 p.m. The dance has occurred for over thirteen years and will have a “White-out” theme this year.

“I like Snowcoming because I feel like it’s more laid back and stress free than Homecoming,” senior Madison Harris said. “The theme is really fun with all the glow bubbles and glow paint, and I also think it’s also more fun because everyone is more comfortable with each other than at the beginning of the year and everyone just seems to get along a lot better.”

The courts selected for Snowcoming will be picked differently than Homecoming. Instead of students picking their classmates, teachers nominate six students. Those six students from each grade are later presented to the whole grade, and each student is asked to pick two girls and boys for their grade. Snowcoming court will be announced Friday, Feb. 5 at the pep assembly.

“I was actually picked by my teachers to be one of the candidates for Snowcoming, and I definitely was not expecting it,” junior Karis Skaggs said. “When I did hear, I was really shocked at first and then began feeling really excited for the dance.”

Although the school dress code still applies, Snowcoming is known more as “casual dress” than other dances like Homecoming and Prom. Outfits can range from a simple tee and jeans to party dresses.

“I’m excited to go mainly because of the dress that I bought,” said junior Hannah Willett. “I’ve gone to the dance since freshman year, and I love that it’s more relaxed than all the other dances. People kinda decide if they want to be comfortable with a t-shirt or go all out with a really nice dress.”

The same DJ who played at this school year’s Homecoming will play again at this dance. He has deejayed at FHN many times for many dances. A playlist will be created on Twitter with a hashtag which can be used to request songs the night before or the night of the dance.

“I am on StuCo, and I can honestly say that we had a difficult time deciding the right DJ because it’s essentially what can make or break the dance,” junior Sydney Weber said. “But I’m confident with our decision, and I believe we chose a great DJ who will definitely make Snowcoming great this year.”
