Lewis and Clark Hosts Blood Drive
Published: February 16, 2016
Every year, Lewis and Clark Tech School organizes two blood drives that are run by the American Red Cross. This year, it is on Feb. 17 and 18.
“I think the blood drive will be good for everyone,” junior Taylor Johnson said. “Even though I won’t be participating, it’s for a good cause and could potentially help a lot of people.”
While Lewis and Clark is sponsoring the blood drive, the American Red Cross will be doing the actual drive. This will let students in the tech school have the opportunity to give blood, even if they can’t at their own school.
“The health-related and health occupation classes come together to get businesses to donate food so we can have bribes for people to come donate blood,” senior Abby Rapplean said.
The food is used as a bribe for the students to come out and give blood because for about 15 minutes after they give blood they have the opportunity to sit, relax and eat food. They get a variety of food donated such as chicken nuggets, pastas, pizzas, desserts and lots more.
“I’m in the health-related occupations for next year and I think the thing I’m most excited for is the blood drives,” junior Hanna Willerton said.
This blood drive gives the students in the health programs an opportunity to get out and branch off to try and do something a little different. This difference would be talking to business owners about donating food for this cause.
