On Friday, Feb. 12, the varsity boys basketball team played host to the FHH Vikings. The hard-fought game lasted a little more than an hour. The Knights lost by a score of 49-36.
“I think we started off pretty well,” junior spectator Kayla Turner said. “We just kinda dwindled as the game went on.”
The Knights started off with a 10 point lead and were able to hold their lead in the first quarter, with a score of 15-7. After an intense second period, the score was close with the Vikings leading 22-21. At the end of the third quarter, the score was still close with the Vikings winning 35-31. The Knights never regained their lead after the second quarter.
“They came out and played well in the first quarter, playing as a team, and were able to score some baskets,” the JV boys basketball coach Eric Eubank, said. “They kinda slowed down there a little bit at the end, but good effort overall.”
Before the game, senior Austine Pauley was presented an award for her basketball feats for the Lady Knights team. One of those being that she scored more than 1,000 points over her high school career. The boys varsity basketball’s next game will be on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Fort Zumwalt West.
“We just got too frustrated, which led to turnovers, especially when they started trapping in the half court,” junior Jose Alega said.
