On Friday, March 31, FHN’s varsity girls soccer team faced the Troy Trojans on the field. The game started off with an impressive hustle performed by Troy as they pressed towards North’s goal. Luckily for the Knights, their goalie was ready and kicked the ball back to the middle of the field, where a majority of the game was played.
“We could use practice in sending long balls and crossing over [the field],” Maddy Wood said.
For quite a while, the game remained in a stalemate with neither side really making any progress toward the opposite goal. However, North had shot the ball towards Troy’s goal numerous times with many comical events taking place, such as the ball landing on top of the goal and getting caught in the net. FHN had come within inches of scoring when they had hit the goal post multiple times by multiple different people. After a lot of back-and-forth plays, Samantha Cary scored a goal on Troy.
“Come on Sam do it again!” a spectator from the crowed yelled.
Once the second half started, it was back to the stalemate once again. The difference was that there was a lot more pressure this time with Troy desperately trying to get back at the score North made last half. Luckily for FHN, Cary scored another goal making their score 2-0. After a while of resisting Troy’s offensive and defensive plays, North gave Cary another opportunity, and she delivered when she scored another goal for North, destroying the moral of the Trojans. In the end, the score was 3-0 with North defeating the Troy Trojans with a flawless victory.
“I think [Troy] played really well too,” Wood said after the game. “They were a good team. I feel like it was a really good game for us.”
