FHN Students Have Fun In Sun During KOE Picnic On May 6

On May 6, KOE hosted its annual KOE Picnic out on the football field after sixth hour, which ran through the end of the day. KOE hosts the event in order to recognize students for individual achievements that they have won such as Student of the week, Honor roll and more.

KOE had a lot of things in line for the picnic such as food like hotdogs, burgers and ice cream and had many inflatables for the students to enjoy. While many students enjoyed the inflatables, some students gathered around with friends to play things such as frisbee, volleyball and football.

Lindsey Scheller, one of the sponsors alongside Kristen Johnson and who is with her eighth year with KOE said that no doubt the 1100 students had a lot of fun at the picnic.

“Yes, for sure. It was great,” Scheller said.

There may have been a lot of factors that played into the students having fun such as the nice weather and the cooperation of the students. Everybody had a highlight of the day during the picnic, but for Scheller, this year’s picnic was especially special to her.

“You know, the weather this year was pretty fantastic,” Scheller said. “There’s a lot of years where it’s been raining or cold or both, and this year, it was like sunny and 80 degrees and so that was fantastic. And I will just say like, I don’t think we had any problems with any students or anything like that, everybody was just awesome and having a good time, so that was a huge highlight for us.”

The inflatables this year were a favorite this year for some students, with the school providing three inflatables and one very new one that was taken by storm.

“Everybody always really loves the inflatables,” Scheller said. “That Wipeout game where they were jumping across those big red balls, that seemed pretty fantastic. Everybody always really loves the joust, that’s super fun. We also had a new obstacle course thing that was really fun so I think the inflatables are always kind of a crowd favorite.”

The picnic lasted through sixth and seventh hour until the end of the school day, with many students very happy with the picnic and how much fun they had. Scheller hoped that students got a lot out of the day looking at it in a very different way.

“You know, I just think it’s awesome that there are so many kids who are invited for so many different reasons,” Scheller said. “but it’s all just because they have just done something really good for North so it’s so nice that they just get a day to like forget about like all their classes for a couple of hours and just go out and have a great time and get a bunch of free stuff and yeah, so it’s really fun getting to watch them do that.”
