Student Council Shares Opportunities for Students to Share Ideas

Francis Howell North hosts a club called student council that many kids join every year. It is a club that gives students the chance to help bring new ideas to the school.
Student Council hosts and plans different events throughout the school year, such as Homecoming, Mr. FHN, Snowcoming, Trick or Treat street and Stuco elections.
“Two of the biggest events we do is Homecoming and Snow coming,” sophomore Bailey Brewington said.
A few weeks before Homecoming the Student Council team comes together and makes decorations for the dance. After a lot of hard work everyone enjoys what they put together.
“Seeing all the decorations we make for each event and coming together and seeing everyone enjoy what we put together makes everyone feel like we made a huge accomplishment,’’ Brewington said.
To join Student Council students have the opportunity to be their homeroom class representative at the start of the year. After the class representative is chosen, all students that want to join Student Council will receive an application that has to be filled out and turned in. Then, they will get a letter notifying them if they’ve been accepted or not.
Meetings start at the beginning of the year. The meetings are held in the auditorium unless it’s an after school meeting. After school meetings are held in Shelly Parks or Jami Wilkens, the club’s sponsors, rooms. Homeroom meetings are usually every other month.
Student Council can be a good opportunity to make friends and help out the school.
“If you are looking to join Student Council you definitely should,” Brewington said. “It’s the first club I joined as a freshman and it’s fun to do”.
