Old Saint Charles commonly referred to as Main street is a throw back with its vintage architect. They keep the historical vibe alive not only with the old buildings but also the stone streets, old street lights and the unique shops.
“How they’ve kept the spirit alive of how the town was back then like the brick roads. Really neat part of town the ice cream shops there are pretty cool.” John Berkeley a Student at Francis Howell North said ” I also spend time just walking around”.
Besides the unique stores the street offers it also has some great places to stop by and get a quick snack or drink. Everyone knows about Lewis and Clark or Trail head but what about the small businesses that seem to hide on the street and sidewalks.
Three of the most liked and most unique on Main Street are Picasso’s, Bike Stop Cafe, and Little O’s Soda shop.
“The atmosphere is so unlike any other area around St. Louis. Main Street is full of history and interesting shops and restaurants.“ Kylie Kirkpatrick a student from North said.
Little O’s is a family owned soda shop that has a 80-90’s vibe. They have only been open for three and a half years but have made a name with their homemade soda that you can’t find any other place along with ice cream and candy from an older era.
“We have old fashion handmade soda. Unless you’re looking really hard you won’t find a place that makes so many things old fashioned. All of our equipment is antique.” Ian Gilbert a worker from Little O’s said.
Picasso’s is a cafe that does much more than just serves over priced coffee and food. They have live music every Friday and Saturday from 8-11p.m. with performance from locals. Also staying true to their name they have Art up for sale all around the store and old books for sale.
“I like the atmosphere of the cafe and they have really good tea.“ Kirkpatrick said.
Bike Stop Cafe is not only a cool cafe to stop by and eat but also they repair bikes.
“ I guess number one we are a bike cafe Mechanic hybrid. We are all about being green here. We have a fun staff and owners who care“ worker Anthony Nimo said.
