After coming off a huge season last year, the softball team has high expectations for this year. Last year, the team won districts and sectionals and lost in quarterfinals of state. This year they are starting the season off strong.
“I’m looking forward to all of the positive energy,” Senior Taylor Beye said. “Whether we are ahead or behind, we are always excited for each other and even when a mistake is made on the field, everyone is looking forward to the next play.”
Beginning Aug. 29, the softball team has five games in a row. They’re playing Troy, Francis Howell Central at home, St.Charles West, Timberland, and Fort Zumwalt South at home. The team is currently 4-0 for the season.
“We have just been focusing on the simple fundamentals in practice, like our swings and fielding a ground ball,” Junior Elizabeth Davis said. “After that we will just relax and have a little bit of fun before we have to focus up again for the game. Winning the tournament was really exciting since the softball program has not won that tournament in over ten years.”
On Aug. 22, the team played in the Parkway Invitational tournament. The team won their first round of games against Ritenour and Marquette. They played Northwest for the semi-finals and ended up playing Fort Zumwalt West in the finals. They won 4-3 against FZW, which resulted in a first place trophy. This is the first time in over ten years that the team has won the Parkway Invitational.
“I am excited for the next five upcoming games,” Senior Megan Seigler said. “It was really exciting winning the tournament because we haven’t won it since 2003. It makes me proud to be on a team where we never give up.”
