The varsity girls volleyball team will have their second tournament of the season at Lutheran St. Charles on Friday, Sept. 23 and will lead into Saturday, Sep. 24. The team has had a strong season so far. In the last tournament that the team participated, they were able to clinch the first place spot and come home with a win. The team is hoping to carry over their previous success into the next tournament.
“I thought our last tournament was a good tournament for everyone to get back in the groove of everything,” senior Sam Alexander said. “That helped us with our past game with working better as a team and that will help us with our next tournament, we just have to put it all together.”
The team is expecting to see a good amount of competition at the tournament. They will be playing a mix of private and public schools such as Timberland, FZE, Duchesne and Westminster.
“I think our biggest competition will be against Westminster because we always end up playing them in this tournament from years past, and that is usually the best game,” senior Kate Doerhoff said. “We are pretty equal in talent so it should be fun.”
The team and coaches are excited for the tournament and confident that they will do well. The girls are looking forward to seeing how their strengths will show and what new things the tournament has in store for them.
“I am looking forward to getting to compete against new teams that we played last year but we haven’t seen yet,” sophomore Sarah Zimmerman said. “I think our team’s biggest strengths is that we come together more as a team and have more energy and enthusiasm which improves our actual play on the court.”
The girls will have their first game starting at 3:30 p.m. against Duchesne High School.
