On Oct. 22 at Koch park, FHN varsity cross country will be competing in districts. To get ready for this event, practices for cross country have included keeping times and working to improve speed and distances each day. Wanting to improve from last year, they are pushing themselves harder each practice.
“In practices, we have been pushing ourselves really hard so we get the results we want,” sophomore Jackie George said, “but I’m really happy how everything turned out because I didn’t know what to expect with this being my first year.”
This is George’s first year competing, and no matter how challenging it was to get on varsity her first year, she has worked very hard to make it.
“I hope each year I can get better times and keep on improving,” George said.
The goal this year is to top the results of last year and to see where they need to work harder next year. Being able to participate in Districts is a huge success that the runners are proud of, and they are very “pumped” to race. Its also a fun time for the whole varsity team to bond and encourage each other.
“I have a lot of confidence for the races I’m competing in, and it’s really fun to get to be with everyone again and go really hard at the races and winning,” sophomore Hanna DeGraw said.
Junior Drew Brissette will be running Districts for his second time. After having a couple years of competing, he isn’t very nervous and is working hard to get better times.
“I feel confident that I will do good and that I can make it past Districts and into Sectionals,” Brissette said.
The team has a lot of confidence going into Districts and is excited to see how the results turn out as well as who makes it to sectionals.
