He walks to the mat. He has the headgear, the uniform, the knee pads and he’s ready. For freshman Drake Whitehead and the rest of the wrestling team, the season has begun. Their first meets were on Nov. 30 and Dec. 2.
“There’s a lot of moves I have to remember and learn, but it’s worth it,” Whitehead said. “Wrestling has helped a lot with my balance in my other sports.”
As the Knights go through the season, freshman Da’Vion Tabor has high hopes for the team: to make it to State. Meet after meet, only time will tell if the Knights will make it.
“You can’t give up,” Tabor said. “You have to bring your best to every match. Wrestling has taught me so much like sportsmanship and teamwork.”
Every year, the team looks forward to the annual lock-in. This year, the lock-in was on Nov. 18 and started at 7 p.m.
“It was great to be able to spend time with my team,” Tabor said. “We played games and watched a movie. It was a lot of fun.”
