Student Council Prepares for Annual Snowcoming Dance

With the holidays jumping around the corner at the students, Snowcoming at FHN will practically be setting itself up as soon as all the students can say, “It’s snowing outside.”

“The dance is a lot of work and it takes a lot of work,” Grant Freitas, Student Council President said.

Snowcoming is much like homecoming, but with a few twists. Instead of the traditional homecoming that is held in the gym, this dance is held in the commons. Students dress down rather than up. The dance will be held on Feb 11 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“I don’t see my friends very often,” Student, Sophie Carite, said. “So, it’s a good opportunity to hang out with people outside of the classroom.”

Like any school dance, snowcoming takes lots of hard work and dedication. It takes a few months to plan and fully set up for a few hours of endless fun. FHN’s student council works hard in trying to make the night memorable for North’s students. An estimate of the cost of the decor, food, and more is about $5000.

“To prepare for the dance it takes, like, two months.” Freitas said.

There are many unique qualities about Snowcoming. It’s neon decor, similar theme every year, and location all make it special in it’s own way. Instead of updos, sparkles and bowties, the dance is less formal. Students don’t have to dress up too much for the night.

“I don’t dress up to much,” Student, Ronald Joel said. “I think it’s nice we don’t have to get to dolled up for the night.”

Other than the unique decorations and formal wear of the night, there are a lot of activities Snowcoming has to offer. Dancing, taking pictures with friends and eating good food are just a few of the things students can do. Snowcoming has festivities homecoming doesn’t offer.

“Students can have fun, they can dance, they can get their faces painted, they can get food,” Freitas said. “They can get lit.”

Students can partake in the dance this February. Student Council prepares hard to make sure everyone has a fun, memorable experience.

“I think it’ll be a really fun night. I can’t wait to see what student council has to offer.” Carite said.
