As Prom approaches, the junior delegates are finishing up their plans for the big event. This year, Prom will be held in Newtown on May 6. The theme will be Hollywood.

“We started planning with the theme, since that’s what the decorations will be based off of,” junior delegate Jamie Sneed said. “We had voting one day at lunch between Disney, Hollywood, and Grease themes.”

The planning began shortly after Homecoming, starting with the theme. The juniors and seniors had to cast their votes at lunches, which were tallied shortly after. Once the theme was chosen, plans for decorations and more could be made. So far, there have been no major problems with the plans, though there has been a fair amount of hardships. Currently, the delegates are trying to get donations to raffle off from businesses. There was also some negative feedback from students, after a rumor started that the theme would be Disney instead of Hollywood. The planning is still wrapping up, but the last thing the delegates will have to do is make sure the check-in process is ready.

“The hardest thing to plan so far was probably the venue change,” junior class sponsor Marissa Cohen said.

There will be several changes to this year’s Prom, other than the theme. The venue is different, and instead of having dinner, there will be heavy appetizers offered. These changes will help to lower the cost of the prom tickets, which has been a complaint made by students in the past.

“I think everyone’s favorite part will be just being able to spend time with their friends,” junior delegate Amber Pryor said. “Prom isn’t about the decorations and stuff. It’s about the people.”
